Hello people..It is Monday and the last week of November…!!New children’s brand Ethnic Babies has something new, fresh, Vibrant & @frocentric for the holidays!
African fashion has been making waves for some time now but grown-ups seem to have all the fun. Ethnic Babies is the new kid on the block that is here to change this. If you have followed designer, Syl Anim then you will know that her hands can turn anything into magic. I Rep Camer caught up with the fashion designer that is about to take Micro fashion by storm.
Describe your label, Ethnic Babies.
Ethnic Babies is a children’s clothing line. We produce custom made accessories and clothes for boys and girls.
How did it come about?
My love for fashion and the birth of my daughter inspired me. People often admired the outfits I made for her, and wanted the same styles for their little ones. This gave me the idea to create a brand.
What age ranges do you cater for?
We make clothes for children aged 3 months to 12 years old.
Let’s talk fabrics. Which ones do you use?
A variety. We often choose materials like Ankara, which is popular in West Africa, toghu from Cameroon and Kente from Ghana. We also love making clothes with gorgeous Malian mud cloth, cotton and tulle. The fabrics we use are usually gentle on the skin and beautifully crafted.
Tell us about the inspiration behind your Christmas collection. What makes it special?
I wanted to create timeless pieces, with vibrant African textiles, that children could wear for the Holiday season. My idea was to provide a refreshing alternative to the usual store-bought outfits; something with cultural resonance. After all, Christmas is the time when families get together and share stories across generations. I am hoping that these unique outfits, which carry so much history and artistic traditions, will also spark curiosity among our children and bring about conversations that encourage them to develop pride in their heritage.
How can people buy your products?
We run an Etsy store at: www.ethnicbabies.etsy.com while our website is under construction, and can ship to anywhere in the world. We also take orders and deal with inquiries via social media or phone. It is very important to us that customers have the best journey with us.
What does 2018 hold for Ethnic Babies?
A lot of surprises. We plan to make the Ethnic Babies brand a household name!
It was an interesting, fun and challenging photo shoot with the kids!
